The City of Avondale in the West Valley engaged the ASU Stardust Center, led by Daniel Glenn, to develop a new vision for the revitalization of the city’s historic city center, Old Town Avondale. Mr. Glenn led the community engagement process, involving Old Town residents, business owners and city officials in a planning process to determine the future of the core area of Old Town, which is a neglected and deteriorated part of a rapidly growing city. Five intersections were selected in the area to be redesigned into “gateway” developments with mixed-use and mixed-income housing over retail as well as, live-work housing as part of a larger effort to transform the area into a pedestrian-oriented “urban village”.
