Our design methodology is based on participatory design, whenever feasible within the time constraints of a project and the goals of our clients. We seek input directly from the people who will inhabit our designs, through techniques developed to draw out the voice of the people who will inhabit or utilize the spaces and places we design. Our participatory design methodology often includes “kit-of-parts” modeling workshops, in which focus groups from within the community are able to have a hands-on exercise to help determine early conceptual design options for the project. We have honed these techniques with people of diverse cultures in the many contexts in which our principals have worked, including Native American, Latin American, African American, Asian American and Euro American communities in both rural and urban communities.
