Nisqually Culture Center

The Nisqually Culture Center was conceived conceptually by formulating a Master Plan that incorporated new community-oriented structures while revamping the existing ones. Ideating the plan in phases, the architects focused on the renovation of existing Longhouse in Phase I, introduced Culture and Language Classrooms, Canoe Carving/Storage and Culture Studios in Phase II, and punctuated the site with a Ceremonial Arbor, recreational zones and Sweat Lodges in Phase III. Multiple vegetable gardens, trails, camping areas and gathering spaces embellish the forested site in a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. While 7 Directions Architects led the Master Planning, the landscape design was conceptualized by McCormack Landscape Architecture. The site is accentuated with interactive and interpretive design features, breathing culture and tradition into the crafted spaces.
