Lummi Housing Authority Administrative Building

7 Directions Architects/Planners engaged the Lummi Tribal Housing Authority staff in a process to develop a master plan and concept design for their new administrative offices and laundry facility. A “kit-of-parts” process was utilized to assist in developing the site and building layout. Cultural research and input from tribal members led to a design based on the traditional Lummi longhouse, which is also in keeping with the Lummi design guidelines. The buildings are designed to use structural insulated panels, passive and active solar design, and heat pumps for low energy heating and cooling. Designed to be solar ready, the buildings can be net zero if full panels are implemented. The site is designed using low-impact site design principles, and includes rainwater and porous paving.
